Pro-Life ProclaimerVolume 5, Issue 4 — Fall 2007 State of Our State
The "Healthy Wisconsin" health insurance plan promoted in Wisconsin will force Wisconsin taxpayers to pay for an abortion for any Wisconsin woman, for any reason, at any time during the pregnancy as often as a woman would choose to have one, including "therapeutic abortions" or abortions for the mother's health. The family of a 54-year old La Crosse woman who has had several strokes and other medical conditions, and is being kept alive at Gunderson Lutheran only by continuous sedation and a feeding tube, filed documents in La Crosse County Circuit Court to authorize Gunderson Lutheran to cease lifesustaining treatment. A judge had declared the woman incompetent and appointed her daughter as guardian. In Wisconsin, a guardian has no authority to make that kind of treatment decision unless the patient is in a persistent vegetative state or has expressed wishes through a conversation or advanced directive. This woman meets neither requirement (www.lacrossetribune.com). The attorneys for the family asked for dismissal of their motion to remove the feeding tube because the attorneys said they could not win in court (Wisconsin right to Life. Aug 20, 2007). Everyone should consider having an advanced directive of how health decisions are to be made should he or she become incapable of making those decisions. BFLW has Protective Medical Decisions Declaration forms available for $2 plus shipping. The Assurance Women's Center opened at 507 W. Wisconsin Ave. Appleton on September 24, 2007. Praise the Lord for the work of The Master's Craftsmen and others for remodeling much of the building, donating labor and materials such as carpeting, carpet laying, and office furniture A rally was held at Calvary Baptist Church, Kaukauna on September 30th to inform and encourage people about the center Mrs. Joyce Girts from Calvary Baptist Church, Kaukauna is the director and doing a great job. Pray for her and others who minister in pregnancy care centers. In 1988 there were 17,986 abortions performed in Wisconsin. In 2006 that number dropped to 9,580. Baptists for Life of Wisconsin affiliated pregnancy care centers are there to meet the needs of women with unplanned pregnancies, whose greatest need is a relationship to our Lord Jesus Christ. |
