May 2011 DevotionalThe Value Of Life
On July 19, 1970, a family of 11 was blessed with another child. This child was different than all the other children. He was born mentally and physically handicapped. The doctors told his parents he wouldn't make it through the night. But God had different plans for this special child. This child was named Mickey after his father. Mickey was raised in a so- called poor family, according to standards in the United States of America. God met their needs, even though it wasn't a Christian home by any means. But God knew this child belonged in this family where he would be loved and cared for. Mickey had to be bathed and fed like a baby all his life. He did learn how to walk at the age of 6, and at times he was heard talking, mostly in his sleep. He needed constant care, because he would try to eat everything- plastic, paper, raw meat, cloth, and his favorite..... homework that belonged to his siblings! He had to go to a special school five days a week. This school was 26 miles away from where he lived, and the school had to hire someone to drive him back and forth. God had plans for Mickey. It turned out that a lady that knew the Lord was going to be driving him to school. This lady would talk to Mickey, and she would tell him about the Lord. One day when she was driving, Mickey was even more active than usual. He was so active that she had to pull the car over to the side of the road. As soon as she started talking about Jesus, he stopped and looked right at her. She explained to Mickey what Jesus did for him on the cross. She prayed with Mickey that day. Afterwards she looked at Mickey, and she could see a difference in his spirit. His eyes seem to be full of light. Even though Mickey could not speak, God knew his heart and she believed that day Mickey received the Lord as his Savior. As Mickey grew older, his parents couldn't take care of him the way he needed to be cared for. As hard as it was for them, they put him into a foster home. Mickey is 40 years old now. He was put on hospice care this last Christmas. One may ask, "What value was his life?". Well, it turns out that this special child is my brother. He has taught me so many things over the years. I am so grateful that he was put into my life. Who knows- maybe my brother prayed for me to receive Jesus as my Savior. If so, God answered his prayers. When I was 26 years old, I saw my need for Jesus.
Do you see your need for Jesus? Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God:” What these verses tells us is that everyone is a sinner. We fall short of God's standards. We can never be good enough on our own to get to heaven when we die. Romans 5:8 and 9 “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to shed his blood for sinners. He gave his life as a gift to us. A gift is free; if we have to earn it, it would not be a gift. The gift is eternal life by Jesus Christ. It we don't accept this gift, we are on our way to Hell for eternity. Have you receive this free gift? Romans 10:9,10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto rightousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” If you see yourself as a sinner, then confess it to Jesus. Call upon him to come into your heart and be your Lord and Savior. Then and only then can you be called a child of God and start living for Him. It is a blessing to be a part of the Assurance Women's Center. I have seen lives changed, when clients come to know Christ as Savior. God is so good! I'm looking forward to seeing what He has in store for this ministry. God Bless. Mrs. Sue Deaton |
Luke 12:6,7 “Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows.”
