February 2011 DevotionalWhat is the Value of Your Life?
Many mothers cherish some item made by one of their children. This item has value only to these mothers because of who made them. Each human being is uniquely created by God and has eternal and infinite value. God created and designed us, and that makes each one of us valuable. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them (Genesis 1:27). Because God is ETERNAL and man is created in His image, each one of us is eternal and will spend eternity in one of two places. 1. Either in hell prepared for the devil and his angels, or 2, in heaven because they have repented of his or her sin, and placed their faith and trust in the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and received Him as personal Lord and Saviour. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10. Each one of us have value because we were uniquely created by God in our mother’s womb. David says, "For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth." Psalms 139:13-16. In our mother’s womb, God determined our sex, IQ, color of our eyes, color of our hair, size of our feet, skin color and other distinctive features. Each person is unique and special to God and has value to Him, which includes people with Down syndrome, a cleft pallet, spinal bifida, and cerebral palsy to name a few distinctions. However, our culture does demonstrate the value of or the preciousness of life. Babies are killed in the womb by abortion because they are not of the right sex, skin color or other features which do not please the mother. About 90% of babies diagnosed prenatally with Down syndrome are aborted. This precious little one, created by God, may also be aborted because letting this baby live is NOT CONVENIENT to its mother.
EVERY PERSON, regardless of their capabilities, incapability’s, or development, has a special value to God and they must also have a special value to us. Yes, there are unplanned pregnancies, but that does NOT make them INCONVENIENT BABIES.. The unwed woman IS pregnant because someone coveted something that they had no right to. Sex is reserved for the marriage bed between a husband and his wife. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. (Genesis 2:24-25). But fornication, (sex outside of the marriage bed) and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; (Ephesians 5:3). However, in America, we have killed over 53,000,000 precious, innocent babies in the abortion mills in our country since the Roe vs. Wade ruling in 1973 because it was NOT CONVENEINT to let that baby live. We are a country that does not value the life of the pre-born, and this has carried over to everyday life itself as hardly a day goes by when we don’t either read of or hear of some one being murdered. We are a country where abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and assisted suicide are performed because it is NOT CONVENIENT to let that person live, so we kill them for our own convenience and self centeredness. After my mother went to Glory in 2000, at the age of 95, we children went through her belongings. Among the items was a mother’s day card which I had made for my mother, including a poem which I had written to her, when I was in the 2nd grade. My Mom had noted that on the back of the card. Made of construction paper and a ribbon, it was now faded and fragile. This card had no value to anyone – except to my mother.
Think for a moment, have you ever been an inconvenience to God? NO!!! YOU have NEVER been an inconvenience to God, in fact, Psalm 127:3 states that Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. I must challenge you with NO person has ever been an inconvenience to God. In fact NO ONE has ever been an inconvenience to God, whether that person is preborn, an infant, physically or mentally handicapped, elderly, or terminally ill. God went out of His way to send His Son the Lord Jesus Christ to earth to go to the cross to die just for you so that you may have eternal life and a home in heaven. Because you have never been an inconvenience to God, neither must any preborn baby, infant, handicapped person or terminally ill person be an inconvenience to you or me. We are to love people as God did. Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Ephesians 5:1-2.
