Psalm 139:14

Big FamilyWe had the privilege of entertaining our grown children and seven grandchildren at our home this Christmas. We thoroughly enjoyed it! (I can’t say that for our dog “Kirby” who had to serve as a toy at all times for my grandchild). It was a blessing to observe the differences of each child and to realize God’s sovereignty in His creation. “I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully make: marvelous are Thy works: and that my soul knoweth right well” (Psalm 139:14).

Looking at these children and enjoying their company, contortions and commotion drew my attention to the travesty of abortion. I had to stop and thank God that their parents were saved as children and rejoiced when God “blessed” them with children of their own. I thought of the staggering statistic that some 4000 babies are aborted every day in the United States. (That number is larger that the population found in 540 of the cities, towns and villages of the State of Wisconsin). I also thought about the factual accounts of the brutality of the abortion procedures and the callousness of those who perform these atrocities.

Then in my minds eye I reflected on the legislative floors where elected officials, educated men and women, spent untold hours in debate over the legality of such abortions! My only conclusion has to be as stated in God’s Holy Word which is “forever settled in heaven”. “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come” (2 Timothy 3:1) and “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: NEITHER CAN HE KNOW THEM, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14).

It is evident that the course of action must be as God directs in His Word “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

GodGod is sovereign. Nothing ever “takes Him by surprise.” Could it be that Our Lord is drawing His children to that place of revival: “If My people, which are called by My name, shall HUMBLE themselves, and PRAY and SEEK my face, and TURN from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Perhaps you are reading this article right now and you have never placed your “faith and trust” in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross. May I encourage you to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Scriptures is clear in “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.. . . For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:9, 10, 13).
