January Devotional

Revelation 21:5

"Behold, I make all things new." — Revelation 21:5

January begins a new year and many people make resolutions, most of which are shortly broken. It is always refreshing to make a new start. Our text speaks of the day when God will create a new heaven and a new earth. Only righteousness will dwell in those new environs. How wonderful that will be. We look forward to that perfect time.

There are other refreshing new starts in life for us. When we trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation and turn from our sin, we are born again. To be washed clean from our sin and guilt in the blood of Jesus Christ fills our hearts with peace and joy.

May I challenge you to start some new things this month? If you are not a member of Baptists for Life of Wisconsin, send in your annual contribution of $25 if you are single, or $35 if you are married. That's less than 70¢ per week. If you really care about opposing abortion, that's not investing very much.

The second challenge is to read your Bible through this year. Several Christian organizations have daily Bible reading schedules. Then pray. Remember to pray for those who are volunteers in our pregnancy centers.

Another challenge is to become involved in this ministry. Ladies can become volunteers at the centers. Older ladies could let young mothers become volunteers by being willing to take care of their children one day per month.

Men could clean and repair baby furniture and accessories used in the "Learn and Earn" programs. Storing these items and transporting them to the centers as needed is an important way of helping in this cause.

Teens and children can also be involved by prayer and giving. Save loose change in baby bottles that are made available by the centers. Raise funds from friends, relatives, and neighbors when you participate in the "Walk for Life" or a "Bike Hike for Life."

On Monday, Jan. 21, there will be a BFLW pro-life rally on the steps of the Capitol building in Madison, WI. It begins at Noon and is about an hour long. We encourage you to be there.

There's great satisfaction when you are actually doing something positive to help in the pro-life cause. God is pleased, for sure, because He is the creator, giver, and sustainer of life. God does not want babies aborted, but He wants them to live. By becoming an active participant in this ministry, you are serving the Lord.

The apathy of Christians is often discouraging. Don't be apathetic, but be active and involved. You will find it to be rewarding and refreshing.

Maybe this is something new that you can start doing this year. May the Lord use you and bless your life.
