June DevotionalLifeLike many of you, I was captivated by the message Dr. Leigh Crockett brought at the Baptists For Life annual meeting. In the course of his message, he spoke of his recent brush with death, and how God miraculously healed him. It gave him a renewed appreciation for LIFE. All this got me thinking more about life. It strikes me as ironic that to some life is so precious, and to others it is expendable or at best something to be tolerated. Our nation's constitution declares life to be one of everyone's" inalienable rights." Yet many so easily discard the lives of those they consider unimportant or too much of a bother. What makes the difference? Those who view life as precious tend to be those who believe life comes from God. In Genesis 2:7 God breathed into Adam's nostrils the "breath of life, " and man became a living soul. John 1:4 says of the Lord Jesus," In Him was LIFE and the LIFE was the light of men." Christ has life in Himself. In John 8:12 Jesus said "I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the LIGHT OF LIFE." Following Jesus not only yields spiritual LIFE, but also spiritual LIGHT. His followers are illuminated so as to be able to understand the value of life. In Philippians 1:21, Paul said, "For me to LIVE is Christ," and in Colossians 3:4 he stated that, to the believer, "Christ IS our LIFE." Is life precious to you? Have you trusted in Christ as your Savior to give you everlasting LIFE? Are you making your life count for Him? Do you value the lives of others? Remember His desire not only that we have LIFE, but that we have it "more abundantly!" (Jn 10:10) Jim Stevens |
