Baptists for Life of Wisconsin

August Devotional

"For in Him we live, and move, and have our being" - Acts 17:28a

The gift of life is so precious. God is the giver of life. It was God who breathed into man's nostrils the breath of life and he became a living soul.

The Holocaust of six million Jews in World War II was a terrrible atrocity, but a far greater atrocity is the 45 million innocent babies who have been slaughtered since 1973. God will not wink at, but judge America for its horrific sin.

I praise the Lord for those who stand for life. Months ago, a very brave and courageous governor of South Dakota signed a bill to ban abortion. I knew after he signed the bill that the Pro Abortion people would boycott South Dakota. I turned to my wife Mary and said to her, "We are going to South Dakota for vacation." We had a wonderful time there, spending our money in that state. One of the highlights of our vacation was going to Mt. Rushmore. The sight was breathtaking! Mt. Rushmore is one of the great symbols of freedom in America.

These precious babies deserve the freedom to live and not die. They have been given the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. May God help us to do whatever we can to preserve the lives of these little ones.

Recently we had a tragedy in our church. We had a young couple, who were looking forward to their first child. But something went terribly wrong, and their baby was stillborn. All we could do was to be there in the hospital for them and comfort them. It was tough to preach at the graveside of that precious baby girl. The only comfort we could give was that their daughter was safe in the arms of Jesus in Heaven.

But praise the Lord, God gave triumph out of tragedy. This young lady recently accepted Christ as her Saviour in our home. With tears flowing from her cheeks she said, "Now I will see my baby one day in Heaven." We gave her a booklet called "Known Only to God" which has been a real help and comfort to her.
