The Bible Has the Answers

New YearAs we begin this New Year, I am reminded that the Bible, God’s inspired and authoritative Word, is a pro-life manual. All of man’s questions concerning the issues of life and death are answered in the pages of this precious and infallible book. The Bible begins by declaring that God is the creator of life. The very first chapter of the first book of the Bible, Genesis, clearly states, God created . . . every living creature. In the second chapter of Genesis, we read: And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. This pro-life message is affirmed throughout the Scriptures and comes to a fitting conclusion in the final book, Revelation, where Jesus Christ identifies Himself with these words: Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore; Amen Revelation 1:17, 18.

Holy BibleThe Bible also declares that God is the sustainer of life. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul, in his letter to the early New Testament church at Colossae, states, For by him were all things created, that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Colossians 1:16, 17).

These powerful, pro-life Bible truths bring us to the life-transforming message of the Gospel. The God of the Bible, who creates and sustains life, has not only defeated the power of death, but also graciously provided eternal life as a free gift to all who will by faith receive it. The Bible says it this way:

  • For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).
  • For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8, 9).
  • For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16 – 18).
  • He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him (John 3:36).
  • And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God (I John 5:11 – 13).

God’s answer to the issues of life and death is Jesus Christ who said: I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  (John 14:6).
